With nearly 40,000 fans looking on in AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, North Shore edged Duncanville 10-7 to win the Texas 6A Division I state championship. The game marked the sixth time in the last eight years that the Houston-area and Dallas-area programs battled for the title in the state’s largest classification.
The game was scoreless until a little over four minutes to go in the third quarter.
North Shore, ranked No. 46 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, extended the lead to 10-0 with a field goal. However, with under six minutes to play, Duncanville got on the scoreboard.
With a under a minute to play, Duncanville got to the NS 25-yard, but the Panthers couldn’t convert on a 4th and 3.
Overall, Saturday’s state championship is the sixth for North Shore, which entered the game No. 46 in America, and first under head coach Willie Gaston.
