He revealed that his journey toward better health began during the COVID-19 pandemic and was driven as much by mental wellbeing as by fitness.
The singer has admitted that throughout his twenties, despite professional success, he lived an unhealthy lifestyle and struggled with body image.
“Wellness is a direct mirror to mental health,” Sheeran has said, explaining that exercise and routine helped him feel better both physically and emotionally.
Fatherhood proved to be a major turning point.
After welcoming daughters Lyra in 2020 and Jupiter in 2022 with his wife Cherry Seaborn, Sheeran realised he wanted to be more present, energetic and healthy.
He cut back on drinking and smoking, began exercising regularly and focused on moderation rather than restriction.
Working initially with trainer Ali Thomas during lockdown and later with Matt Kendrick while touring, Sheeran developed a varied routine that includes running, weight training and reformer Pilates, the latter helping him stay fit without overtaxing his body while performing live.
Over the past five years, he has lost more than 30 pounds (around 14kg).
Sheeran has stressed that he hasn’t given up enjoying life, instead aiming for balance.
He still enjoys good food and red wine, but not every day, crediting consistency and moderation for helping him maintain his health while managing a demanding global tour schedule.
Now leaner and fitter than ever, Sheeran says the changes have made him a better performer and a better father.
He insists his journey isn’t about perfection, but making choices that add to his life rather than take away from it.
