ROSS TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) – The Ross Local School District Board of Education has approved a grade realignment plan set to take effect at the start of the 2026-2027 school year. The decision, made during the board’s meeting on Sept. 18, will see 4th grade students attending Morgan or Elda Elementary, while 5th grade students will transition to Ross Middle School. There was not an announced plan for the Ross Intermediate School that will no longer house classes.
“This decision reflects our commitment to being good stewards of the community’s resources while staying focused on student success,” said Superintendent Dr. Bill Rice. “We’re not just closing a building—we’re planning for the future, with care, strategy, and community partnership at the heart of everything we do.”
The realignment comes in response to declining enrollment and concerns over Ohio’s Fair School Funding Formula and potential property tax reforms. These factors have prompted district leaders to take proactive measures to ensure efficient use of space and staffing.
“This was not a decision we took lightly, but one we felt was necessary to ensure the long-term stability of our district,” said Ross Board of Education President Greg Young. “We believe this realignment is the right step to preserve the quality of education our families expect while preparing for ever-changing funding methods from the state.”
The district is also exploring long-term uses for the RIS building, with plans to establish a District Welcome Center and consolidated administrative offices.
