LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The University of Kentucky says it has fired a tenured professor following a university audit that uncovered misconduct tied to UK’s former Equine Analytical Chemistry Lab.
According to the university, an internal investigation into Dr. Scott Stanley began in early 2024.
The audit found Stanley falsified drug testing results, engaged in fraudulent billing practices, failed to follow established testing protocols, and concealed outside business relationships that should have been disclosed under university rules.
UK officials say Stanley’s actions compromised the integrity of drug testing results and demonstrated a significant lack of oversight.
Following a months-long review process, the UK Board of Trustees voted during a special meeting on September 11 to revoke Stanley’s tenure and terminate his employment.
“At the University of Kentucky, we are committed to advancing Kentucky through research and service of the highest quality,” said UK Board Chair Britt Brockman. “We must uphold the highest ethical standards and comply fully with university and industry regulations. Any violations of these policies are taken seriously and addressed to maintain the integrity of this work – the work of thousands of people across this institution.”
The Equine Analytical Chemistry Lab has since been acquired by Eagle Diagnostics.
