An upcoming community health fair is offering free fitness opportunities to promote active lifestyles.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — WalletHub took a survey ranking 100 different cities across America for the best to worst active lifestyles — and Corpus Christi came in 97th place.
“We’ve noticed that since COVID, there’s been a decline in the number of community’s involvement in regard to health fairs,” McCrann Insurance Company owner Charles McCrann said. “So, what April and I decided was to kick off the year, kick off 2025 with a small health fair.”
With different vendors offering free Zumba and fitness opportunities, there is hope that more residents will connect to more active organizations.
“We’ve gotten a tremendous response,” McCrann said. “Everywhere from dental groups short off hand, to CPAs to bookkeepers short off hand to Zumba.”
Sometimes, a decline in health can also play a factor in a limited amount of fitness activities. That’s why health screening and nutritional values, will also be presented.
“There are these resources, these are different vendors that are here to help you. Corpus is huge on serve the local, be about the local,” McCrann Insurance Marketing Agent and Event Coordinator, April Vasquez said.
In some cases being uninsured can also lead to a lack of prioritizing your health.
“One of the main points of us having this event this weekend is also because it’s the last round up for open enrollment for health insurance,” she said. “So it’s actually very important because most of the population of Texas is Latinos to a certain extent, and unfortunately a great number of those as well are uninsured.”
The community health fair is happening Saturday at In the Game Funtrackers.
