Hundreds of University of Nebraska at Omaha students attended the annual Career and Internship Fair Wednesday afternoon, searching for bountiful employment opportunities and free trinkets.
Held on Tuesday, Feb. 25 and Wednesday, Feb. 26 in Milo Bail Student Center’s second-floor ballroom, students from all majors were welcome to attend. The fair ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days.
The event was organized and hosted by UNO’s Department of Career Services. Career Services’ internship fairs are designed to help students connect with employers – both local and national – to help them get a head-start on their careers.
Attendees went from booth-to-booth, exploring potential jobs, submitting resumes and learning about open internship positions. Student LeaAnn Michael came to the fair hunting for opportunities in her major of marketing.
“I got a lot of really good information,” Michael said. “When I went in, the list of people that I would have really considered working with was really small, but now it’s pretty long.”
The employers in attendance included, but were very much not limited to: Gallup, Guardify, Fiserv, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, First National Bank of Omaha, Omaha Public Power District, Union Pacific and the Federal Air Marshal Service.
“What I got out of it was that there are plenty of opportunities out there, you just gotta go seek them,” student Daniel Lee said.
Several pop-up workshops were held by Career Services staff across campus in the days leading up to the event to help students review their resumes, practice interviews and familiarize themselves with employer expectations.
Students interested in the career fair were encouraged to register with the Department of Career Services, but registration was not required to attend.
Further career preparation and employment advice can be sought through the Career Services’ website or appointments with Career Services advisors, and current students can be notified of relevant career opportunities by registering with UNO’s Handshake portal.
