school closings in maryland

SOUTHERN MARYLAND – Due to inclement weather and continuing adverse road conditions, all school systems in Southern Maryland will remain closed on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Students, staff, and families are urged to stay safe and monitor updates from local authorities regarding weather conditions and road safety. See the following notices:

St. Mary’s County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, with a Code 2 for staff. Ten and eleven-month employees do not report to work. Twelve-month employees report to work no later than 9:00 a.m., with liberal leave in effect. 12-month employees who normally begin their day after 9:00 a.m. are to report to work on time and designated emergency personnel report to work on time.

Calvert County Public Schools is closed on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. All after school and evening activities scheduled for Wednesday, January 8 are canceled. Code Yellow for employees.

Charles County public schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025. While main roads in Charles County and our schools and buildings have been cleared well, back roads and neighborhood roads, as well as community walkways and sidewalks leading to some of our schools, have not fully been cleared as of 4 p.m. this afternoon. This would impact school bus and student walker traffic. There is a Code Two, which is a two-hour delay, for Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) staff who follow the code system. When schools are closed, there are no after-school or evening activities.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 8. There will be no instruction whatsoever for students. Tomorrow will not be a virtual instruction day. A Code Blue with liberal leave is in effect for employees. With the exception of Unit III personnel, 12-month employees who are unable to get to their work location because of hardships are encouraged to utilize annual leave and should notify their supervisor of their intent to do so or discuss other arrangements. Unit III personnel must report as required and will receive additional instructions to that effect.

PGCPS schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, January 8, due to inclement weather. Code Yellow: Only emergency personnel must report to work. District teams are working to restore facilities to safe operation levels and look forward to welcoming students and staff back when it is safe.

Meal distribution sites will be open to provide grab-and-go meals from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.:
