Friday (May 30) brought good news and bad news for the Swiftie community. The bad news? We still have no idea when we’re getting Reputation (Taylor’s Version). The good news? For the first time in her nearly two-decade career, Taylor Swift now has full control over her entire musical catalog.
The “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” singer, 35, broke the news on social media, sharing a series of photos of herself surrounded by her first six albums. “You belong with me,” she wrote in the caption, directing fans to a letter on her personal website.
Taylor Swift Has Been Re-Recording Her First Six Albums
Back in 2019, Taylor Swift suffered a devastating blow when music executive Scooter Braun bought the master recordings to her first six albums from her former label, Big Machine. Braun previously managed Kanye West, with whom the pop star has had a famously fraught relationship.
The loss spurred Swift to re-record and re-release those albums, dubbed Taylor’s Version. Meanwhile, Braun sold his stake in her back catalog to Shamrock Holdings, a Los Angeles investment fund, in November 2020.
Five years later, Swift announced in a letter to fans that she has now purchased her master recordings from Shamrock.
“I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening,” she wrote. “I really get to say these words: ‘All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs to me.’”
“To say that this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,” Swift added.

OK, Great—But What About ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version?)’
Only two albums have yet to see their re-release: Taylor Swift’s eponymous 2006 debut and 2017’s Reputation. For many Swifties, the last year has been an endless cycle of swearing that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) is finally on its way, honestly, for real this time, just look at those Easter eggs.
Today, we heard the truth straight from Swift’s mouth. “Full transparency: I haven’t even re-recorded a quarter of it,” wrote the Eras Tour star. “The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it.”
However, Swift went on to say that she has already completely re-recorded the album that started it all. And fear not, fellow Swifties: it seems the vault tracks aren’t lost forever.
“Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right… But if it happens, it won’t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have,” she wrote. “It will just be a celebration now.”
