Yavapai College announced that the closures were in place because someone called to say that they were on campus with a gun.
PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Yavapai College has lifted a lockdown that was in place across all campuses Monday morning.
According to officials, someone had called the college to say that he was in one of the classrooms with a gun.
“Yavapai College campuses and centers were placed on lockdown due to a threat received by phone of an individual claiming to be in a Yavapai College classroom with a firearm,” college administration wrote in part.
Multiple Yavapai County law enforcement agencies responded to investigate the campuses and found that the threat was unsubstantiated, officials said.
The public community college’s main campus is located in Prescott, with locations in Clarkdale, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Sedona.
“The College is closed for the day. Employees, students and the public should not enter any college property at this time. If you are already present at the college, please shelter in place,” officials said.
Lockdowns took effect around 6:20 a.m. The all clear was given at 10:42 a.m.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as our first responders worked to ensure everyone’s safety, and we thank our law enforcement agencies for their coordinated efforts and quick and efficient response,” Yavapai College wrote.
The investigation is still ongoing.
