(KOAM) – This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, a milestone that celebrates decades of impactful public health advocacy and support.
Established in 1974, WIC has been instrumental in enhancing the health and well-being of millions of pregnant women, infants, children, and families across the nation.
For half a century, WIC has championed access to nutritious food, breastfeeding support, health screenings, and essential referrals. The National WIC Association (NWA) has been a steadfast advocate throughout 40 of those 50 years, providing critical support, education, and advocacy for the 12,000 provider agencies that make up the WIC network.
From its inception with the opening of the first clinic, WIC has been a vital resource for families, offering personalized support through healthy food access, nutrition education, and breastfeeding guidance. The program’s commitment to improving public health outcomes is reflected in the countless lives it has touched.
If you’re pregnant, a caregiver, or a parent with a child under 5, WIC is here to provide the right personalized support for you and your family. To learn more about how to benefit from WIC services, visit signupwic.com.
