I’m writing in response to Jennifer Graham’s Oct 8, 2025 “Perspective: The Super Bowl halftime show will be even worse than we think.” As a Hispanic American who lived in Puerto Rico, I was deeply disturbed by the tone and framing of these articles.
While my father is from Peru, my time on “la isla del encanto” gave me a deep appreciation for its culture and people and the pride they carry in their musical identity. That’s why I was especially offended when I recently overheard someone refer to Bad Bunny as a “Satan worshipper.” This kind of rhetoric is not just unfounded — it’s harmful. It reflects a broader pattern of cultural misunderstanding and fear that these articles seem to reinforce.
Bad Bunny is more than a performer; he is a symbol of Puerto Rican resilience, creativity and global influence. To reduce his presence to a political provocation or a threat to conservative values is to ignore the richness of his artistry and the millions of fans — many of them Hispanic Americans — who see themselves reflected in his work.
