RELATIONS WITH THE COUNTRY’S MILITARY ALLIES. JCPS STUDENTS WERE BACK IN SCHOOL TODAY, AND OFFICIALS SAY TRANSPORTATION WENT SMOOTHLY. DISTRICT LEADERS HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE THIS EVENING TO GIVE AN UPDATE ABOUT HOW THE BIG DAY WENT. OFFICIALS SAY THE LAST BUS RIDER WAS DROPPED OFF AROUND 630 AT 6:00. CPS SAID 13 BUSSES WERE ON THE ROAD CARRYING 47 STUDENTS. JUST 20 MINUTES LATER, THERE WAS ONLY ONE BUS LEFT. WE PUT IN A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE A SUCCESSFUL FIRST DAY AND WE’RE VERY, VERY PLEASED WITH TODAY. THERE WERE SOME HICCUPS THAT WE WOULD NORMALLY HAVE ON A FIRST DAY, BUT WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH OUR DRIVERS PERFORMANCE TODAY. SOME OF THOSE HICCUPS INVOLVED DRIVERS MISSING A FEW KIDS AT BUS STOPS, A COUPLE TIMING ISSUES, AND SOME UNEXPECTED TRAFFIC PATTERNS BECAUSE OF CONSTRUCTION IN SOME AREAS. OFFICIALS SAY THERE WERE ALSO SOME LONG CAR RIDER LINES, BUT NOTHING THAT CAUSED MAJOR DELAYS. J-C-P-S PARENTS AND STUDENTS SAY THE FIRST DAY WENT SMOOTHLY AS WELL. WE TALKED WITH STUDENTS AT CHAUNCEY ELEMENTARY AND AFTER THEY LET OUT, THEY TOLD US THAT THE FIRST DAY WENT GREAT AND WHAT THEY WERE MOST EXCITED ABOUT WAS SEEING THEIR FAVORITE TEACHERS AND BEING WITH THEIR FRIENDS. Jefferson County Public Schools returned to the classroom for the 2025-26 on Thursday.An always hot topic when the district returns to school is “how smooth will bus transportation be for students?”According to district officials. the last bus rider was dropped off as of 6:30 p.m.At 6 p.m., JCPS said there were 13 buses on the road, carrying 47 students. Just 20 minutes later, there was only one bus left on the road.”We put in a lot of time and effort to make sure that we have a successful first day, and we were very, very pleased with today. There were some hiccups that we would normally have on a first day, but we were very pleased with, our drivers performance today,” said Rob Fulk, JCPS Chief Operations Officer.This drop off time is comparable to last year’s first day as well.Two years ago, the last JCPS student was dropped off just before 10 p.m. on the first day of school, prompting classes to be canceled for several days during the 2023-24 year.
