SMITHVILLE — The Wayne County Schools Career Center is opening its doors to the public from 5-7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 for its annual open house.
The event is open to all, with a special invitation extended to Wayne County eighth, ninth and 10th graders and their families, according to a community announcement.
High school juniors can explore the RAMTEC facility and learn about two half-day, senior-only programs — machining technologies and robotics & automation. Seniors and adults are encouraged to explore adult education programs and discover career-focused training opportunities available after graduation.
Students interested in engineering technologies should visit Orrville High School, located at 841 N. Ella St. in Orrville, from 5-7:30 p.m.
This year, the Career Center is introducing a new fire/EMT program for high school students interested in pursuing firefighting and EMT training.
School, military and business reps will be on hand
College, university and career-technical school partners, military, business and industry representatives will be in the High School Commons to answer questions about colleges and advanced training. Additional information about college credit, certification or licensure opportunities will be available from career-technical instructors.
Academic teachers will be available to discuss a comprehensive offering of academics, some of which offer college credit. A College Credit Plus (CCP) meeting will be held in the Student Assistance Center (room A120) at 5:30 p.m. for those interested in learning more about CCP options.
Light refreshments will be available in the commons.
Online application set to launch
At 6:30 p.m., the Career Center’s online application will go live, with a countdown to the launch in the commons. Computers will be available for those who wish to apply on-site that evening. The application link can be found at wcscc.edu. School counselors will be on hand to answer questions about the online application process, and the Extra Help Area will be open with information related to the Career Center’s award-winning extra help programs.
Building tours will be led by staff guides, but maps will be available for those who prefer to tour on their own. There will be a drawing for door prizes for eighth, ninth and 10th graders.
Adult ed program also featured
The WCSCC Adult Education program will also hold an open house at the same time. Adults interested in full-time, part-time, or Fast Track classes can tour classrooms and labs, discuss financial aid and grant options, and attend an information session that evening. Staff will also be available to discuss free Aspire classes and adult diploma programs.
