The Washington County Career Center has named its November students of the month, Madalynn Hinton and Carter Scott.

Hinton is a Fort Frye High school senior enrolled in the pre-nursing program. She is the daughter of Christopher Hinton of Marietta and Amanda Hinton of Lowell.

Hinton is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization, Student Council and secretary for the National Technical Honor Society at the Career Center. She also is the class treasurer of her technical program.

She also is a student ambassador and a liaison between the Career Center and Fort Frye. She has been on the Career Center’s principal list and honor roll every grading period.

At Fort Frye, she played varsity softball and was featured in The Marietta Times as teen of the week. Academically, she has or will take college credit courses for American national government, English composition, introduction to nutrition, medical terminology, psychology, statistics and technical writing.

Hinton has earned industry-recognized credentials and certifications for automated external defibrillator, cardio pulmonary resuscitation, first aid, stop the bleed and the certified nurse assistant. She is receiving technical focus and learning skills for health science and technology, human anatomy and technology, lifespan development and medical intervention, medical terminology, mental health, nutrition and wellness, patient centered care, patient centered care and diagnostics, pharmacology and principles of allied health.

English instructor Chris Swarr nominated her.

“Maddie is an outstanding student who excelled in my CCP English composition class,” Swarr said. “She is a strong independent worker and a conscientious, polite, helpful, and detail-oriented student who always submits quality work.”

Upon graduation, Hinton plans to attend college to obtain a bachelor’s in psychology to become a forensic psychologist.

Scott is a Waterford High School senior enrolled in the welding program. He is the son of Christina Whitley of Waterford.

At the Career Center, Scott is a member of the SkillsUSA and has been on the Career Center’s honor roll and merit roll every grading period. He also is class vice president for his technical program.

Scott has or will earn industry-recognized credentials or certifications for American Welding Society and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10-hour training. He is taking course offerings and learning skills for flux-cored arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding and shielded metal arc welding.

He was nominated by welding instructor Tyler Stacy.

“Carter is eager to learn and works well with others. He is always trying to better himself with his craft,” Stacy said. “He worked at Pioneer Pipe this past summer to receive on-the-job training to prepare for the Career Center’s early placement program as a senior.”

He is in the pre-apprenticeship program with Pioneer Pipe. He plans to join Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 168 as an apprentice.
