VICTORIA, Texas – Victoria Independent School District (VISD) is enhancing its commitment to student success with its new CHOICE Schools initiative, designed to equip students with the skills and experiences needed for both higher education and career readiness. Central to this initiative are the P-TECH Pathways, which integrate high school education with college coursework and practical work experiences in high-demand industries.
The P-TECH Pathways offer a unique educational experience where students can simultaneously earn a high school diploma, industry-recognized certifications, college credits toward an associate degree, and gain hands-on work experience—all at no cost to their families. This initiative is supported by partnerships with local businesses and higher education institutions, ensuring that students are well-prepared for both college and the workforce.
The P-TECH Pathways include:
- Engineering: Provides practical experience in fields such as civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
- Healthcare: Equips students for medical careers with training in medical assistance and healthcare administration.
- Computer Science: Delves into coding, software development, and IT, preparing students for the expanding tech sector.
- Education and Training: Prepares future educators with the skills and experiences necessary for success in education, from early childhood through secondary education.
Students will have the opportunity to attend information sessions about P-TECH Pathways during school hours in October and November. Additionally, parents are invited to an informational session scheduled for late October. More details will be provided soon.
In addition to P-TECH, VISD’s CHOICE Schools offer other specialized pathways, including STEM, Personalized Learning, College and Career Preparation, and Dual Language programs. These pathways are designed to cater to diverse student interests and talents, supporting academic and professional achievement.
