Virginia Gay Hospital recently welcomed students from area high schools for an interactive healthcare career exploration day, facilitated through Allen College. The event gave students a first-hand look at a variety of healthcare professions through a series of hands-on learning experiences.
Students were divided into small groups and rotated through four activity stations: Imaging, Laboratory, Rehab Visions (Physical and Occupational Therapy), and Nursing Skills. Each department provided demonstrations and opportunities for students to try out real-world healthcare techniques, offering a glimpse into the daily work of healthcare professionals.
Hands-on activities included ultrasound guided IV placement, intubation demonstrations, MRI, imaging and ultrasound techniques, and lab and blood bank testing procedures. Staff from Rehab Visions guided students through therapy-based exercises and mobility assessments, showcasing the vital role of rehabilitation in patient care.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience healthcare beyond the classroom,” said Tina Eden, VGH CEO “Our goal is to inspire young people to consider careers in healthcare and show them the many rewarding paths available right here in their community.”
Virginia Gay Hospital continues to partner with Allen College and local schools to provide educational experiences that connect students with healthcare professionals and career opportunities close to home.
