KENNEWICK, Wash. — Veterans and military families in the Tri-Cities will have an opportunity this week to prepare for civilian careers through a specialized workshop designed to bridge the gap between military and civilian employment.
WorkSource Columbia Basin will host a career preparation session on Wednesday, Oct. 8, specifically tailored for veterans, National Guard members, and military spouses. The event aims to help participants get job-ready before entering one of the region’s largest job fairs.
The workshop will provide hands-on assistance with resume writing, interview practice sessions with veteran-friendly employers, and guidance on effectively communicating military experience to civilian hiring managers.
“Military terminology in most cases doesn’t always translate well to civilian employers or the hiring manager,” said Jose Sandoval of WorkSource Columbia Basin. “We help the veterans rewrite their resume to make it clear, relevant, and align with the job qualifications listed.”
The session addresses a common challenge many veterans face when transitioning to civilian careers, effectively communicating the value of their military skills and experience in terms that civilian employers understand and appreciate.
Participants will work directly with career counselors to revise their resumes, making military accomplishments and responsibilities more accessible to civilian hiring managers. The workshop also includes mock interview opportunities with employers who have experience working with veterans.
The free career preparation event runs from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday at WorkSource Columbia Basin, located on North Kellogg Street in Kennewick. Veterans and military spouses interested in participating can contact Jose Sandoval at example@example.com to reserve a spot for mock interviews.
The workshop comes as the Tri-Cities region continues to see growth in various industries, creating opportunities for veterans to apply their military training and leadership experience in civilian roles.
