VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) – Valdosta State University President Richard Carvajal is set to step down after accepting a new position.
Carvajal has been named the next president of California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt.
He will step down at the end of the fall semester and take over at Cal Poly Humboldt in January.
“This decision has not been easy,” Carvajal said. “VSU has been my home for almost a decade. Serving alongside our incredible students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners has been among the greatest honors of my life. Together, we have faced challenges, achieved milestones, and laid the foundation for continued success. While I now feel called to return to my first home in northern California, Valdosta State will always remain a part of me.”
Carvajal started as VSU president in 2017. During his time at the college, VSU has seen renovations to the Admissions House, several academic buildings, residence halls, and football practice fields.
