GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The University of North Dakota will close its main campus Wednesday night through all of Thursday as deteriorating winter weather and near-blizzard conditions threaten to make travel hazardous across the region.
The campus will close at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, and reopen at 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, according to a university Facebook post.
The closure includes the UND Wellness Center, Chester Fritz Library and Memorial Union. Wilkerson Dining Center will remain open for students during the closure.
Final exams and projects scheduled for Thursday will shift to online.
Winter commencement ceremonies are expected to proceed as scheduled on Friday, the university said.
Essential personnel should report to work as scheduled, though employees who cannot safely travel should notify their supervisors.
Non-essential personnel should not report to work during the closure.
The university urged students heading home for winter break and the campus community to monitor the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s ND Roads website before traveling.
Officials recommend travelers carry winter survival kits and stay with their vehicles if stranded.
There are 15,844 students enrolled at UND.
