WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump is commenting on the upcoming marriage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, following previous remarks in which he called the billionaire pop star “not hot.”
The engagement news broke while Trump was in an hours-long cabinet meeting at the White House.
A reporter asked him a question about the “biggest pop culture news of the year,” and told the president the world wanted his reaction.
Well, I wish him a lot of luck,” Trump responded. “I think he’s a great player. I think he’s a great guy. And I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”
In a surprise post on Instagram Tuesday, Swift wrote, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” Photos from the proposal show Travis down on one knee in front of Taylor in a romantic garden setting.
Trump has previously been publicly critical of Swift, writing on Truth Social in May, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”
In 2024, shortly after the presidential debate between Trump and Kamala Harris, Swift jumped on social media and posted, “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” In her Instagram post, she went on to say, “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Trump responded with his own social media post saying, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.”
Swift has also called out Trump for previously using a fake, AI-generated image of her to make it falsely seem as if she was endorsing him.
