LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The crew of the independent film “February” made a stop at La Crosse’s Pump House as part of their Wisconsin Screening Tour.
February is written and directed by Tomah native Nathan Deming.
His film follows a Latino immigrant struggling to fit in after moving to Wisconsin. That is until he discovers the classic Wisconsin tradition of ice fishing.
The film is the second installment of his 12-part series. Each film is based on a different month in the badger state.
Deming hopes the film will show others you don’t have to leave the state to make movies and will inspire others to try it.
“I’m really passionate about making films here and bringing more cinema here,” said Deming. “So that’s kind of the goal of this whole project. I’m excited about telling lots of Wisconsin stories from a different perspective each time.”
February just won a Golden Badger Award at this year’s Wisconsin Film Festival.
The movie will continue to screen for free in cities across the state.
