MAZOMANIE, Wis. (WKOW) — The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday it will be referring a charge of disorderly conduct after a teenager’s actions resulted in a one-day closing of the Wisconsin Heights School District.
On Jan. 24, the school district canceled classes after receiving information about a potential threat.
Sheriff’s deputies collaborated with school staff and the Office of School Safety to conduct a thorough investigation. The investigation concluded that there was no immediate danger at the school.
“While it was confirmed that no threat existed, the actions of those involved had a significant impact on the students, staff, and parents in our community,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett in a statement. “Ensuring the safety and sense of security in our schools is of utmost importance, and behavior that disrupts that safety will be taken seriously.”
As a result of the investigation, a high school student will face a disorderly conduct charge for their role in creating unnecessary alarm.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said it will continue to work with local schools to “maintain safe and supportive learning environments for all students.”
