Several students fell ill Monday at The John Carroll School in Bel Air and the school was evacuated.According to the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS, firefighters arrived to John Carroll School around 11:45 a.m. for a report of people becoming sick. The Bel Air Police Department announced the school was evacuated while the fire department investigates. The school released a statement, saying two students required medical attention during a schoolwide Mass, and other students subsequently fell ill.The school ended the Mass and dismissed early out of an abundance of caution, the statement said.The school said 18 students are being evaluated at hospitals after reporting mild, but unspecified symptoms.The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Co. posted an update online, saying about 13 people were taken by eight ambulance units to treatment facilities while several others went on their own. All illnesses were non-life-threatening.Fire personnel checked the school using specialized metering devices but didn’t find anything that could be associated to a cause. The all-clear was given to re-enter the building around 1 p.m.
