Tonight, the public is invited to work with heavy machinery hands-on in an effort to discover potential careers.
SPOKANE, Wash. – Students across the region have the opportunity to explore various career paths at “ABC Trades Night” at NewTech Prep this evening. This event is designed to give students hands-on experience in the trades and learn about potential career paths.
The event takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at NewTech Prep, where participants can operate heavy machinery and explore different trades. This high school offers programs in cosmetology, dental, nursing, medical assisting, vet, pharmacy, graphic design, digital media production, culinary arts, and more.
Jeanette Thompson, a dental careers instructor at NewTech Prep, highlighted the supportive environment at the school. “The students come in and they all have the same interest. And they want to be here and they choose to be here. And so it makes it atmosphere a little bit different, maybe a more homey like a, like a family,” said Thompson.
One student, Maelia Amen, found her passion for dental assistance through NewTech Prep. As a sophomore, she discovered the program on a school field trip. She enrolled in the dental assistance program and secured an internship, working 6 or more hours per day for two months.
“Oh, well, I just came in, and so, like, it’s not a normal classroom, right? I struggle to learn, like, when it’s knocking on doors. And so I saw all the chairs and all the people helping. Oh, like, this could be a good place,” said Amen.
The event is open to the public, offering a chance to learn more about the classes and opportunities available at NewTech Prep.
