This weekend on In Focus, we’re getting to know some of the newly elected state legislators in Albany this session.
JoDee Kenney was joined by state Sen. Siela Bynoe. While she represents parts of Long Island, Bynoe said she is getting to work for the people of New York, in addition to those in her home district. Bynoe talked about translating her more than two decades of work in affordable housing to serve her community.
In addition to housing, Bynoe said she plans to address education and health care issues, building relationships with her colleagues in the Senate Chamber. When it comes to education, the senator said she’s working to eliminate the disparities between public and charter schools. For anyone thinking about serving their community in public office, Bynoe said there are a number of opportunities and suggested getting involved.
