SPOKANE, Wash. – Downtown Spokane welcomed an exciting new event on Saturday. “Soulfood and Sips” celebrated African American culture, food and music.
Organized by “Educate, Entertain, and Get Stuff Done,” the event drew inspiration from the “Tacos y Tequila” Festival and focused on diversity through soulful flavors, live performances and cultural storytelling.
Cuisines served included Southern barbecue, comforting soul food and French Creole, among others.
Julie Serquinia, the event organizer, expressed her enthusiasm for the event’s success.
“Incredibly exciting, and the support we got from our sponsors, community, has just put a button on it and let us know we can indeed go forward,” she said.
Local chapters of the NAACP, Inland Northwest Black Student Unions and other cultural organizations collaborated to ensure the event’s success.
Attendees came from the Greater Spokane area, Central Washington and Kootenai County. Organizers say they are already planning for next year’s event.
