The Short North Arts District, a vibrant community for creative artists and businesses, is at the epicenter of inventiveness in central Ohio. Home to more than 300 businesses, the majority of which are locally owned or headquartered, it’s the “place to be” to enjoy and experience independent shops, local restaurants and artistic experiences.
The Short North Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to serving the district, is the nucleus of the neighborhood, according to executive director Betsy A. Pandora.
“The SNA provides services to business owners, property owners and residents to maintain the safety and cleanliness of the neighborhood while also enhancing the visitor experience,” she said. “The SNA’s work supports small businesses, sustains the Short North’s economic vitality, and helps uplift and strengthen our community’s reputation as a leading arts destination.”
Founded in 2012, the SNA celebrates the welcoming and inclusive spirit of the Short North Arts District.
“We believe that creating a sense of safety in our neighborhood goes beyond everyone’s right to be free of harm but extends to the opportunity to be seen and celebrated for our most authentic selves,” Pandora said. “Diversity is central to what makes this creative hub the one-of-a-kind place that it is. The Short North isn’t just a place; it’s Columbus’ most creative corridor and one of its most economically impactful areas. With a total economic impact of $3.8 billion, it drives revenue, tourism and cultural capital throughout the city. People are drawn to the Short North’s creative energy. We see our community as the place where Columbus comes together to create what’s next.”
The district offers a variety of scheduled events. Upcoming events include Gallery Hop, an over 40-year tradition, in which participants explore High Street to discover new exhibits in Short North galleries, encounter live performances, unique shopping experiences and captivating public art. Remaining dates for 2025 are Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 1 and Dec. 6.
“Gallery Hop is Columbus’ favorite day of the month to celebrate art and community,” Pandora said.
Hops on High, scheduled for Sept. 6, is an all-day open-streets event featuring live performances.
“We’ve taken all of the creativity and community of our legendary monthly Gallery Hops and added a vendor market of 80+ artists and artisans, a mini main stage of live performances and interactive art experiences to create an unmissable Saturday in the Short North,” Pandora said.
