Whether performing solo, as a duo or with her band, this wild woman will take you on a journey from Appalachian/Roots to Rock, to the Celtic countries, and to Greece and the Middle East with an edgy kick to the old-world music of Anatolia and the Aegean. From the familiar syrtos to the karsilima and zeibekiko dances and the asymmetrical time signatures of the kalamatianos dance, the pulsing beats will have you reaching for your zils and finding your hidden tsifteteli.
As part of the Second Sunday series of artist presentations and demonstrations, the gallery is hosting painter Amy Brnger on July 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Brnger is from Eliot, Maine, and is a natural world painter. When immersed in nature, she feels complete, and her work reflects the joy she finds when painting natural subjects. While working, Amy is influenced by the seasons and her emotions. Seacoast Artist Association presents two Body of Work shows
EXETER — The Seacoast Artist Association in Exeter is sizzling in July as they present two Body of Work shows: Digital Art Photographer Jim Faist and sculpture artist Natasha Dikareva.
Faist with his series of “Mindful Visions” is a must see. Faist’s photographic method is a personal, contemplative practice, in mindful exploration of the unspoken and symbolic. Faist strives to create images that may carry the viewer to a deeper understanding beyond words. These works evoke the artist’s own creative journey, through the three-part process of visualization, photographic capture, and creative post processing. Images can be initially recorded as color or black and white (digital or film), or via infrared monochrome captures. In the digital darkroom, various graphic editing software is utilized, ranging from legacy products to experimenting with the newest photo technology. Images may go thru many of these steps, until he feels the image matches his vision of the moment in time, both as experienced and as held in memory.
The galleries second Body of Work show is clay and class sculpture artist Natasha Dikareva with her wonderful exhibit, “Between Currents”. Dikareva’s art explores humanity in a moment of spiritual transition. Through her narrative clay and glass sculptures rendered in ethereal whites, turquoises, and blues, Dikareva maps the liminal territories where we currently dwell – neither anchored in old ways of being nor arrived at new ones. Her sculptural language speaks in ancient symbols: nests cradling potential, eggs poised on the edge of becoming, birds navigating between earth and sky. Boats drift through uncertain waters while hearts intertwine with human faces. These forms embody the unity of feeling and being. Between Currents invites viewers into a meditation on collective becoming, creating sanctuary spaces where we can rest and prepare for whatever transformation awaits.
The Body of Work shows run through July at 130 Water St., Exeter. More information can be found at seacoastartist.org and on Facebook. Email gallery@seacoastartist.org.
