SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (WRGB) — The superintendent of the Saugerties School District has resigned.
Daniel Erceg sent a message to district families on Dec. 17, confirming his resignation, which took effect on Dec. 9.
Erceg was first placed on paid administrative leave back on Sept. 9.
“This decision was made to support the Board’s commitment to ensuring a fair, transparent, and impartial internal investigation related to the district’s handling of and response to a serious complaint involving a former employee,” the district said in a statement back then.
The former employee was not identified in the statement. However, CBS6 has previously reported on Reid Kappler, a former custodian and wrestling coach at the school who was charged last July for having sexual conduct with two minors.
As CBS6 previously reported, parents and community members expressed frustration over how the case was being handled.
“This has not been an easy decision, but it is the right one for me and my family at this time,” said Erceg in a statement.
Dr. Gwendolyn Roraback will continue in a role as acting superintendent while a permanent replacement is found.
