The Harrisburg School District board will decide on appointing Dr. Roma Benjamin as acting principal of Harrisburg High School after the resignation of Christopher Sattele.
POSITION LOOKS LIKE, BAYLEE. YEAH, GUYS, THE HARRISBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD IS VOTING TOMORROW TO MAKE DOCTOR ROMA BENJAMIN, THE INTERIM PRINCIPAL HERE AT HARRISBURG HIGH SCHOOL. NOW, THIS COMES AFTER THE FORMER PRINCIPAL, CHRISTOPHER SUTTLE, RESIGNED JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO. NOW, LOOKING BACK, DOCTOR BENJAMIN HAS BEEN WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR 25 YEARS BEFORE RETIRING IN 2013. SHE RETURNED TO BE THE PRINCIPAL AT RAULAND ACADEMY LAST YEAR AND WAS PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE AFTER BEING CITED BY POLICE FOR HARASSMENT ON THE JOB. NOW, ACCORDING TO THAT CITATION, SHE GRABBED A 13 YEAR OLD STUDENT’S SHIRT COLLAR AND SHOVED THEM INTO A LOCKER ON FEBRUARY 14TH OF THIS YEAR, A PARENT WE SPOKE WITH SAID THIS IS THE FIRST SHE HAD HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. THEY PULLED HER OVER HERE. I HOPE SHE’S DOING GOOD. I DON’T WANT TO HEAR THAT STUFF, YOU KNOW, AND I HOPE SHE’S DOING GOOD BECAUSE SHE’S GOING TO BE HERE. SHE’S GOING TO BE WITH MORE GROW PEOPLE OVER HERE. SO BE BE CAREFUL, BE CAREFUL. YOU KNOW, SHE DID NOT STEP BACK INTO HER POSITION AS ROLAND ACADEMY’S PRINCIPAL AFTER THAT INCIDENT, BENJAMIN HAD BEEN SERVING AS THE DISTRICT’S SUPERVISOR, CREATING ASSESSMENTS AND USING THAT DATA TO CREATE SUPPORT IN THE CLASSROOM. ACCORDING TO THE BOARD’S AGENDA. FROM THEIR PREVIOUS MEETING, SHE STARTED HER POSITION AS THE INTERIM PRINCIPAL ON NOVEMBER 19TH. NOW, LIKE I SAID, THE SCHOOL BOARD IS MEETING TOMORROW AT 6 P.M. The Harrisburg School District school board is set to vote on appointing Dr. Roma Benjamin as the acting principal of Harrisburg High School following the resignation of former principal Christopher Sattele.Dr. Roma Benjamin had been with the school district for 25 years and retired in 2013. She returned last year as the principal at Rowland Academy but was placed on administrative leave after being cited by police for harassment. According to the citation, she grabbed a 13-year-old student’s shirt collar and shoved them into a locker on Feb. 14 of this year.A parent, Michelle Ortega, said, “If they put her over here, I hope she’s doing good. I don’t want to hear that stuff.”Benjamin did not return to her position as Rowland Academy’s principal after the incident. She has been serving as the district’s MTSS supervisor. According to the board’s agenda from their previous meeting, she started her position as the interim principal on Nov. 19.The Harrisburg School Board will meet Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. to vote during their legislative session.
