FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Latinos Count is expecting record attendance for its career information fair meant to help high school students think about life after graduation.
More than 260 Latino high school students are expected to attend Positive Pathways at Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday. Students will talk with adult Latinos about their paths after high school, including college, work, military service, the skilled trades and entrepreneurship.
Participating employers include IU Health, Steel Dynamics, Fort Wayne Metals, Weigand Construction, and Parkview.
Latinos Count Executive Director Steve Corona says the annual event is meant to encourage students to think about an “exit strategy” from high school.
“Our vision is to prepare Latino youth for global opportunities and we believe the best way students can prepare for the future is to learn more about the options that exist in Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana and from Latinos who have traveled the same path in life,” Corona said.
The event, which is being held at the Walb Student Union’s International Ballroom, is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and end at 1:30 p.m.
Sponsors for the event include NIPSCO, Google, American Electric Power (AEP) and Purdue University Fort Wayne.
