(ABC 6 News) – Healthcare jobs in Minnesota are in demand, and one event aims to introduce local students to careers in the industry.
On Friday, January 9th, Rochester Community and Technical College is holding a “Discover Healthcare” event for southeast Minnesota high school students. From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., students can learn about healthcare careers through hands-on activities and a career fair led by professionals.
Students will select what sessions they attend so they can explore healthcare careers they are interested in. Careers at the event include Radiation Therapy, Pharmacy, Dental, Sports Medicine, and many more. The event will also let students engage directly with healthcare professionals.
RCTC is holding the event in partnership with Southeast Service Cooperative and Minnesota HOSA. In a statement, Executive Director of Minnesota HOSA Summer Hagy says “every student who walks through these doors represents a piece of Minnesota’s future healthcare workforce.”
It comes as 2025 data from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development shows that healthcare jobs are in demand. Factors contributing to that are Minnesota’s aging population, higher skill requirements in the industry, and growing lack of qualified professionals in the field.
Education is an important part of making sure there are enough skilled professionals in the field to keep up with demand. Events like “Discover Healthcare” can introduce students early to careers they may want to pursue and give them hands-on experience in those careers.
The event is being held at the RCTC Heintz Center.
