UTC’s upcoming Psychology Career Fair is set to provide students with a wide range of opportunities to connect with professionals in the field.
Scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Tennessee Room, the fair will bring together employers, organizations and students eager to explore careers in psychology.
Beyond being a networking event, the fair is a chance for psychology majors and minors to gain insight into their future career paths. With over 20 organizations attending, students can learn about paid and unpaid internships, research roles, volunteer opportunities and full-time positions across a variety of sectors.
Attendees can also explore opportunities with the City of Chattanooga, Hamilton County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications District and UTC’s own Psychology Department, which is offering roles for research assistants, teaching assistants and graduate programs.
Aaliyah Williams, a senior who attended last year’s fair, landed an internship with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, specifically within its Child Protective Services Assessment program. For her, the career fair was more than just an opportunity to find work, it shaped her future.
“Before the fair, I wasn’t sure where my psychology degree could take me,” Williams said. “Meeting professionals face-to-face made all the difference. It wasn’t just about landing an internship but giving me a sense of direction and helping me see how I could make an impact in the world.”
The fair will feature a diverse lineup of organizations that value psychology students’ skills, including companies like 21st Mortgage Corporation, mental health service providers like Centerstone, and youth-focused nonprofits such as Girls, Inc. and Youth Villages.
To make the most of the event, students are encouraged by UTC Career Connections to research the organizations attending, update their resumes and LinkedIn profiles and prepare a 60-second elevator pitch.
For students like Jeremiah Miller, a sophomore who’s attending the fair for the first time, it’s a chance to explore new possibilities.
“I’m still figuring out what areas interest me most,” Miller said. “I hope this fair is a great opportunity to see what’s out there and I can start making connections for the future.”
UTC’s Psychology Career Fair offers a platform for students to engage with employers who understand the unique skill sets psychology majors bring to the table. From internships to volunteer roles, there’s something for every student, regardless of their experience level.
In addition to employer booths, workshops will be offered to help students polish their resumes and improve their interviewing skills. Business casual attire is recommended, and students should bring multiple copies of their resumes to distribute.
To attend, students are encouraged to pre-register on Handshake and secure their spot early.
