(Creston) — Arts and culture programming at a Creston-based community college have received a financial boost.
Northwest Bank has awarded a $12,000 Community College Arts and Culture Grant to Southwestern Community College, aiming to enhance activities provided by the college’s art and professional music departments. SWCC Professional Music Instructor Tobi Crawford and Art Instructor Kelly Devitt say the grant, titled “Visiting Voices: Guest Artist and Musician Residency Series,” will bring professional artists and musicians to the SWCC Creston campus and facilitate interactive workshops, lectures, and hands-on sessions for students. The funds will also help offer accessible public programming, such as performances, exhibitions, and discussions.
Bank officials say the mission of the Community College Arts and culture grants is to provide community colleges in cities of less than 30,000 in population that have a Northwest Bank, with grants to support new initiatives in arts and culture.
