The Newcomer Center at Thornton High School hosted a Danza Azteca workshop to engage students in traditional dance and to celebrate Indigenous culture.

The event is organized by Christina Pulzone, English language arts teacher, in partnership with the Collaborative of the SCFD grant and Lorenzo Ramirez, a community research liaison and founder / artistic director of Grupo Folklórico Sabor Latino. For the past two years, Pulzone and Ramirez invite students to learn about the history of the Mexica and participate in one of the Danzas.
Students of all cultural and language backgrounds attended the event, and some students and staff were given an experience where they could reconnect with their heritage.
Ramirez has been a longtime advocate in Latino communities and communities of color of Northwest Denver, and the Newcomer Center celebrates having him be a part of their community too!
