Rochester, N.Y. — A new permanent exhibition at the Rochester Museum and Science Center showcases the Hodinöyö:nih culture.
Curated by Jamie Jacobs of the Tonawanda Seneca,’s Turtle Clan, the exhibition titled “Hodinöyö:nih Continuity | Innovation | Resilience” features contemporary artists whose works are inspired by their ancestors and traditions.
The exhibition is a culmination of the RMSC’s efforts to support artists’ rights, encourage them to share their personal stories, offer Hodinöyö:nih perspectives, and create a space for Hodinöyö:nih people to reconnect with traditional material culture and knowledge.
Through this exhibit, contemporary artists explore how colonialism and trade have influenced their family ties through the female line as well as the significance that everyday objects and materials have on their culture.
