Netflix said on Friday that it has already completed filming on a second season of Meghan Markle’s lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan , and that it will screen in the Fall.
The news came after the first season of the show, which dropped Tuesday, generated massive worldwide interest, despite being panned in reviews.
A report in British tabloid The Sun cited a TV insider as saying; “This may raise a few eyebrows but one thing which Netflix loves is controversy—and this show certainly created a lot of debate.
“Many were so scathing about the eight-part series that they thought there was no way it would get another season. But it seems the streamer is delighted with the chatter its created on both sides of the Atlantic this week.”
Netflix said today: “The second season has already completed filming.”
The streamer also reaffirmed its partnership with Meghan on her branded goods range, with the company saying in a statement that As Ever was a “lifestyle brand dedicated to beautifully crafted essentials.”
It added, “Developed in partnership with Netflix, the brand showcases a collection of products, personally developed by Meghan, over the past year, having been honed over years of home cooking and entertaining.”
The show received brutal reviews with outlets such as Hollywood industry bible Variety saying: “The show plays out like a forced march, one in which Meghan’s guests must, as the price of getting to share an afternoon in a made-for-TV kitchen with her, praise her first.”
Time magazine found the show and its star wanting, saying of Meghan: “With each glossy new program, podcast, and lifestyle brand, the promise of authenticity has given way to an impersonal performance of perfection. With Love, Meghan might be the most performative example to date.”
Tina Brown , the founding editor of the Daily Beast, said that the show is a “cultural fossil” and that Meghan was “unbelievably inauthentic,” in a Substack chat with Janice Min , the founder of the Hollywood gossip newsletter The Ankler .
Min joked that the show felt like it was filmed in a “mental institution for wealthy women” and that Meghan’s guests looked like they were in “a hostage situation.”
