FARGO, N.D. (LWV) – National Voter Education Week is October 6-10 this year. It’s a week of nonpartisan education to prepare voters with the information they need to cast their ballot with confidence.
Make your plan to vote in North Dakota:
1) Make sure you qualify to vote: you must be a US citizen, a North Dakota resident for at least 30 days, and at least 18 years old by Election Day.
2) Mark your calendar for our State Primary Election on June 9, 2026. This is also an important election for local offices, like mayor, city council, and park board.
3) Have your North Dakota voter ID ready. Acceptable IDs are: ND driver’s license, ND non-driver ID card, tribal ID or tribal letter, or a long-term care ID certificate. If you’ve moved recently, you can update the address on your ID on the ND Department of Transportation’s website.
4) Decide how you’ll vote. You can vote by mail (absentee), early in-person if offered by your county, or in-person on Election Day. The Secretary of State has a handy polling place finder at vote.nd.gov/myvotinginfo.
5) Research your ballot information. The League of Women Voters of North Dakota publishes a nonpartisan statewide voter guide on VOTE411.org. Hear directly from your candidates and read summaries of the statewide ballot measures to prepare to cast your ballot.
