The Missouri State University Career Center is hosting their JCPenney Suit Up Event from Feb. 1 to April 1.
The event gives students and staff the opportunity to purchase professional attire using a 30% discount provided by JCPenney upon event signup. The discount is for online purchases and is stackable, meaning that the discount will be applied to any existing coupons upon checkout.
“This is a program that JCPenney offers to multiple universities, so we’re just glad that we get to participate and offer this to our students,” said Quinlan Pulleyking, a spokesperson for the Career Center. “The fact that it is an online event offers an extra level of convenience for those to shop for their specific needs.”
The Career Center will be hosting many additional events this semester, with the biggest being the Job and Internship Career Fair.
Events such as the Suit Up Event are planned in conjunction with the Career Fair to best prepare students for their first exposure to a professional work environment. The Career Fair will be held on the third floor of the Plaster Student Union on Wednesday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is open to all students from freshman level through graduate programs.
“It’s a great opportunity for students to network and connect,” said Pulleyking. “Although business attire is not required for the Career Fair, having the Suit Up Event take place beforehand allows students to really make important connections with future employers and get their professional wear in tune for any potential interviews.”
In addition to providing these events, the Career Center offers a free professional headshot booth that allows students to take even more advantage of the professional resources given to them. Conveniently located in the bookstore, students can walk straight from the Career Center in the PSU to get their headshot taken and add another element to their portfolio.
Students can find more information about both the JCPenney Suit Up Event and the Career Fair on the Career Center’s website. They can see information such as event dates, comprehensive lists of attending employers and instructions on how to use the discount. Students can also visit missouristate.joinhandshake.com to sign up for updates and book appointments, and use the mobile Handshake app to network and connect with employers.
