Katharine Keune, a longtime communications leader at The Ohio State University, has been named vice chancellor for communications, outreach and engagement at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Her appointment will begin Monday, Oct. 27.
“I am delighted to welcome Katharine to the Miner community,” says Missouri S&T Chancellor Mo Dehghani. “Her leadership will be instrumental as we continue to elevate Missouri S&T’s visibility, expand our impact in STEM education and outreach, strengthen our partnerships and share the extraordinary story of transformation taking place at our great university.”
Keune served as chief communications officer for technology and digital innovation at The Ohio State University since 2014. She first joined OSU in 2001 and has served in multiple communications and management roles for information technology.
She oversaw all aspects of strategic internal and external communications, storytelling, training, organizational change management, videography, web and graphic design for university systems, infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity and customer support at The Ohio State University’s main campus and all regional campuses.
“I am truly honored and thrilled to join Missouri S&T at such an exciting moment of growth, innovation and transformation — one that is equally defined by a deep sense of community and purpose,” Keune says. “During my visit to campus, I was inspired by the dedication, talent and kindness of the faculty, staff and students who make S&T such a remarkable place.”
The role is a new position at Missouri S&T, merging and unifying teams across marketing and communications, engagement and outreach and the Kummer Center for STEM Education.
Keune will report to Dehghani and serve on S&T’s leadership team. She will be responsible for guiding the university’s communications and engagement strategy, facilitating partnerships, and enhancing the university’s presence and reputation both regionally and globally.
Keune earned a master’s degree in communication studies from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. She holds a certification in change management and was a certified project manager for 15 years.
