Milwaukee’s Bronzeville Week is underway, celebrating the African American neighborhood on the city’s north side with the annual arts and cultural festival.The festival features a variety of attractions, from the Infinite Church Choir’s gospel music to a wide array of food options, including barbecued rib tips, fried catfish, fried chicken wings, and hot dogs. Milwaukee Alderwoman Milele Coggs said the festival aims to bring fresh businesses to the Bronzeville neighborhood and attract people to the area, encouraging them to recognize it as an African American arts and cultural hub.Organizers told WISN 12 News that the festival includes dozens of vendors, ranging from food artists to jewelry makers, and even nonprofits are participating in the event. Rochelle Gust, founder of “Fashion, Art and Teen Empowerment,” is participating in the festival for the first time this year. “Our previous location we found though our analysis, and as people frequent our doors, 53206 came through our doors. So we wanted to be closer to the community we serve,” Gust said. Bronzeville Week runs through Saturday, Aug. 9.
