Syracuse, N.Y. — The latest installment of Syracuse University’s “What’s at stake?” webinar series will focus on the potential impacts of Micron Technology’s planned semiconductor manufacturing complex in Clay.
The free, hourlong webinar is at 2 p.m. Monday. It’s titled “Micron in Central New York: What’s at stake for the local environment, amenities and infrastructure?” You can register at SU’s Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs website.
Panelists from the Maxwell School will be Rebecca Schewe, sociology professor; Yilin Hou, professor of public administration and international affairs; Alexander Rothenberg, economics professor; and Carmen Carrion-Flores, economics professor.
Micron announced in October 2022 it plans to spend up to $100 billion constructing four semiconductor fabrication plants, or fabs, in the town of Clay. The fabs would employ 9,000 people and create 40,000 spinoff jobs, Micron has said.
The Maxwell School panel will discuss the ramifications of the Micron fabs, including traffic, water and wastewater infrastructure, roads and airport expansions, the protection of endangered species.
Previous webinars have looked at the impact of the Micron complex on property values and taxes, and on education and workforce. They are archived and can be viewed on the Maxwell website.
