Meghan Markle is gardening her way into the weekend with a little inspiration from Audrey Hepburn.
On March 14, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, quoted Hepburn in the caption of a new photo of herself tending to lemon trees on the Instagram account of her lifestyle brand As ever.
” ‘To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.’ – Audrey Hepburn,” Meghan wrote below the photo. The shot snapped her in profile, where she wore a long blue dress with a straw hat and her hair pulled back as she inspected the lemons.
Lemons were memorably included in the baskets of jam Meghan sent to friends in 2024 as preserves were unveiled as the first product from her lifestyle company American Riviera Orchard, which has since been rebranded as As ever. The As ever collection has since been unveiled, with herbal teas, shortbread cookies, raspberry jam and much more set to be available for sale in the U.S. this spring.
While Meghan’s gardening hobby is well-documented in her new Netflix series With Love, Meghan and an activity she said in the show that she’s raising her kids Prince Archie, 5 and Princess Lilibet, 3, to appreciate as well, her apparent affection for Hepburn is lesser known!
Photographer Alexi Lubomirski previously told PEOPLE that he was inspired by an iconic shot of Hepburn’s husband Mel Ferrer wrapping her in his coat when it came time to take Prince Harry and Meghan’s engagement pictures at Frogmore House in December 2017, and he asked Harry to do the same with his then-fiancée. The romantic picture was an enduring image from the photo session, and Meghan memorably wore Givenchy — Hepburn’s go-to designer — for her royal wedding day in May 2018.

Hubert de Givenchy, the house’s founder, was a close friend of Hepburn and considered her to be his muse. The Breakfast at Tiffany’s star even wore a Givenchy mini dress when she married Andrea Dotti in 1969, and Meghan’s minimalist, feminine wardrobe as a working royal drew many comparisons to Hepburn’s timeless style, onscreen and off.
While living in London, the Duchess of Sussex also received the “Audrey Brow” treatment from the Nails and Brow salon in Mayfair.
“She has ‘The Audrey Brow’ treatment,” Meghan’s personal brow stylist Sherrille Riley told PEOPLE at the time. “It’s particularly flattering on Meghan because it’s a really natural style and it really compliments her features — she’s a beautiful woman.”

In another link, it’s a little-known fact that the Academy Award-winning actress hosted a gardening show not unlike Meghan’s new series With Love, Meghan, which premiered on Netflix on March 4.
The television documentary Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn was released in 1993, and it proved to be her final creative project, as she died that January from appendiceal cancer at age 63. The show saw Hepburn take audiences “on a tour of the world’s greatest gardens,” and won a Primetime Emmy, according to IMDb.
The Duchess of Sussex gardens, harvests, cooks, crafts and creates in her new series With Love, Meghan, which has held a spot in Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 since it premiered on March 4.

Speaking to PEOPLE in this week’s exclusive cover story, Meghan says it’s been a joy to share her personal passions with her biggest audience yet through the series, which PEOPLE exclusively revealed will return for a second season this fall.
“When your children get to a certain age — when you’re not just playing in the sandbox with them but almost playing in your own sandbox again — it’s super joyful,” Meghan says. “As a woman, a mom and a wife, to be able to find yourself again — in a way that was always present but that you maybe couldn’t put as much attention on as you now can when your kids are a little bit older — is a wonderful feeling.”
