No one filed to run for the District 4 seat on Aiken County Board of Education, outgoing District 4 board member Patricia Hanks having not filed for re-election.
This means no names will actually appear on the Nov. 5 ballot for this race, but Evelyn Thonea “Tee” Grant, 60, of North Augusta has declared a write-in candidacy, launching a campaign for this district that serves much of North Augusta.
Grant is a graduate both of South Carolina State University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, and of American Intercontinental University, where she obtained a master’s degree in Education in Instructional Design.
Grant grew up in Allendale and has lived in North Augusta for 34 years. She is retired from Savannah River Site after having been an analyst there for more than 35 years. She has one son who attends an Aiken County Public School District school in North Augusta.
Tell us about yourself:
I am currently serving my seventh year on the School Improvement Council, serving first at Hammond Hill Elementary School and then at Paul Knox Middle School. Also, presently I am in my third year on the Area 2 School Advisory Board for Aiken County Public School District.
I am a member of the Kenneth Campfield Community Outreach Foundation and a life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where I have served as chapter president. I am a member and treasurer at my home church, Macedonia Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Allendale. My son and I also attend True North Church and participate with True Students.
My parents taught my siblings and me the value of a quality education. As I have grown, I have realized the importance of a good education. That is why I am actively involved in my son’s education.
I am a dedicated supporter of my son’s teachers. His teachers need my support, and I need their support to ensure my son is challenged and performs as he should. We have an open line of communication. I have assisted his teacher with their in-class library, providing supplies for Christmas Parties, and chaperoned many class and school activities. Additionally, at the school level, I am currently serving with Paul Knox Parent Teacher Organization and Band fundraising activities.
