Living Legends celebrates heritage and culture in Vernon

The show will take place May 13 and will benefit Vernon’s Saturday Street Lunch program

Celebrate Latin American, Native American, and Polynesian cultures in Vernon with the latest show by Brigham Young University’s Living Legends. 

Storytellers is based on ancient roots and has been told in “every age, every land, and in every tongue.”

“It’s the story of today and tomorrow, of how we connect with the Earth, each other, and our ancestors,” reads a release from Living Legends. 

All the members of Living Legends are of Native American, Latin American, or Polynesian descent. 

This particular show, which will take place at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre, on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m., reflects on the cycle of civilizations and weaves together the legends of the past with the reality of today, using the Polynesian haka to the graceful Mexican Fiesta dance to the Native American hoop dance, to tell the story. 

The show is also in support of Vernon’s Saturday Street Lunch Program.

Admission is by cash or debit/credit card donation at the door (no tax receipts will be issued.

“As Living Legends’ management has kindly offered to pay all associated costs of the performance for the enjoyment of families in the Okanagan Valley, 100 per cent of the money donated will go to the Vernon Saturday Street Lunch,” said the program.

“The performance will enable the audience to assist struggling seniors, the unhoused, and others in our local area who are finding it difficult to make ends meet.”

Seating for the show is on a first-come basis.

Living Legends tours internationally and has been to Australia, Canada, Europe, the Pacific Islands, and South America. Most recently, the group travelled to New Zealand and French Polynesia.
