Martha Stewart shaded Meghan Markle and her venture into the lifestyle space.
“Meghan I don’t really know very well, and I hope she knows what she’s talking about,” Stewart, the original lifestyle influencer, told Yahoo Lifestyle earlier this week.
“Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important.”
Interestingly, the TV star and bestselling author, 83, had nothing but positive things to say about actress-turned-health and wellness guru Gwyneth Paltrow, who founded Goop.
“Gwyneth has been very successful; she created quite an interesting body of businesses,” Stewart gushed, adding that Paltrow, 52, is “admired.”
“She won an Oscar, for heaven’s sake, as an actress! She’s pretty powerful,” she made sure to note.
While Stewart claimed she doesn’t “mind” the idea of having successors, she did wish them all “good luck.”
After Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, stepped down from their royal duties and moved to the United States in 2020, they threw themselves into various projects, both individually and as a couple.
In March, Markle — a former actress — launched the lifestyle, cooking and hosting brand As Ever. Her similarly themed series, “With Love, Meghan,” also premiered on Netflix.
Despite criticism of the “pointless,” “narcissistic” show — which Stewart has seemingly shaded in the past — it was renewed for a second season.
Markle’s As Ever website sells rosé, teas, honey, a cookie mix, a crêpe mix and an apricot fruit spread, which was recently critiqued by jam expert Donna Collins.
“It’s a real disappointment that Meghan is selling a fruit spread, which is what you make when your jam fails,” the Jelly Queens owner opined last month.
“In the jam industry, a spread is what we call something that didn’t work. It can have the best ingredients, but if I had a jam that was too runny, I’d slap a label on it and call it a spread. There’s no excuse for this. It should be perfect.”
Collins went on to argue that whoever is “making [Markle’s] spread” doesn’t “know what they are doing.”
