There will be a viewing of Humboldt County’s first hempcrete home Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 1264 Bay St., Eureka.
Hempcrete is a product made from hemp and lime and is fire resistant and mold and insect proof. This home is a collaboration of Backman Building Services, the Indigenous Habitat Institute, College of the Redwoods Construction Technology and Building Lives by Building Structures. Frybread Love will be on-site for this celebration.
Tour the marsh
Friends of the Arcata Marsh will sponsor a free tour of the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday.
Meet leader Paul Johnson at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center on South G Street for a 90-minute walk that will focus on “the small things along the trails that people often miss.” This event is held rain or shine. For more information, call 707-826-2359.
Marsh tour
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will present a free guided field trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Bring binoculars and meet trip leader Ken Burton at the end of South I Street (Klopp Lake) in Arcata to enjoy incredible views of Humboldt Bay, easy-to-walk trails and a great diversity of birdlife.
Wetlands workday
The Redwood Region Audubon Society will sponsor a Wigi Wetlands volunteer workday Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Volunteers are needed to help create bird-friendly native habitats and restore a section of the bay trail by removing invasive plants and trash. The trail section is located behind the Bayshore Mall, and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart. The Audubon Society will provide tools, gloves and homemade cookies. Dance party
A dance featuring live music and “a great floor” takes place Mondays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 4328 Campton Road, Eureka. Admission is $9.
Craft bazaar
The Ferndale Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW Auxiliary will sponsor its 56th “Veterans Craft Bazaar” Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ferndale Veterans Hall, 1100 Main St., Ferndale. There will be local vendors, food, treats and more.
Stocking stuffers
The annual “Stocking Stuffer Event” takes place Dec. 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Gene Lucas Community Center, 3000 Newburg Road in Fortuna. Admission is free.
This family friendly event features local food, holiday shopping with local vendors and youth vendors, cocktails, cookie decorating, crafts and free pictures with Santa.
Arts and crafts
A “Nature Arts and Crafts Discovery Day” is set for Dec. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cal Poly Humboldt Natural History Museum, 1242 G St., Arcata.
People attending this family friendly event will have the chance to make cards, suncatchers, painted rocks, ornaments, cone creatures and more. The cost is $6 per participant or $3 for museum members. Adults accompanying kids are free.
