Additional security was added at a Lancaster County elementary school Monday after officials learned of a threat against a “list” of students.
A student at Centerville Elementary in East Hempfield Township reported the tip. Officials said the student’s family was contacted and they learned the student who made the threat did not have access to any weapons.
Out of an abundance of caution, the school said it added security Monday.
“We are aware that rumors have circulated over the weekend, and we want to ensure our school community has accurate information,” the school posted on its website. “We commend the student who reported the concern and encourage all students to share important information with a staff member or administrator. Please be assured that we take all threats—whether credible or not—seriously and investigate every report thoroughly.”
Police were not immediately available to say whether the student was taken into custody or whether the student will be processed in the juvenile system.
The student’s age was not provided.
Under Pa. law, a child can only be found delinquent and subject to treatment, supervision or rehabilitation if they are at least ten years old.
