The individual who allegedly entered the Mary and John Gray Library construction zone with flammable objects and made a threat to himself was a Lamar University online student, according to information from campus police.

Campus police said they tested items from a backpack found in the chemistry building, but no threat was found. Lamar University police then cleared all buildings before giving the go-ahead for students and staff to return.

The investigation is ongoing, campus police said.

The Lamar University Police Department has given an “all clear” notice for students and staff to return to campus after a threat was made Wednesday afternoon.

According to the university notice, business operations will remain closed for the remainder of Wednesday. Campus will open for normal operations Thursday.

Lamar University has sent another alert to students and staff saying that campus police have a person in custody, but the threat is still under investigation. The alert reminded any individuals to stay off campus until further notice.

According to Lamar University police, an individual in construction clothing, but not a construction employee, entered the library construction zone without authorization around 12:15 p.m.

“The individual made a threat to himself and was in possession of flammable materials,” police said.

An evacuation was called to “ensure the safety” of students, faculty and staff.

Lamar Institute of Technology also has ordered an evacuation.

Lamar University has ordered “all individuals” to evacuate campus immediately after a threat was made against the school, according to multiple alerts sent to students and employees Wednesday.

The first alert was sent at 12:35 p.m. ordering the evacuation, but a cause was not initially given. Roughly 20 minutes later, a second alert was sent saying that “a threat” was made against the school.

Lamar University has ordered “all individuals” to evacuate campus immediately, according to an alert sent to students and employees at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday.

The alert said that more information will be coming shortly, but an immediate cause for the evacuation was not given.
