The application to join committees for the naming of two buildings that will form a joint facility complex – one committee for the Science Materials Center and one for the Special Education 18+ Transition Services program – is now open.
The committees’ membership will be aligned to the criteria set forth in each facility’s Board-approved charter. The committees will meet to review name nominations for their respective facilities submitted with the focus of making a recommendation to the Leander ISD Board of Trustees in March.
Important: We ask that those who apply to be on one of the committees be able to attend the anticipated meetings listed below.

If you would like to be considered for the school naming committee, please submit your information by Thursday, Feb. 6. We will notify you if you have been selected by the end of the day Friday, Feb. 7.

More About the New Facilities
The complex site will be in a lot next to LISD’s Central Transportation and Support Services buildings in Cedar Park off of New Hope Road west of Lakeline Boulevard. The construction of these buildings is made possible by the 2023 Bond. The facilities broke ground in December and are scheduled to open in Fall 2025.
LISD’s Science Materials Center creates ready-made science kits for all of the district’s elementary school classrooms to provide students with hands-on learning. As the district has grown in the number of elementary classrooms, the existing SMC warehouse has become too small for storage and distribution of the materials. The new facility will also house instructional materials in the new warehouse space.
The 18+ Transition Services program provides young adults, 18 to 22 years old, with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful transition into community and adult living.
A perfect pairing, setting the new building for these programs next to each other on the same lot will further accommodate the work-based learning opportunities available to 18+ Transition Services students at the Science Materials Center.
